Our work with BASF & Z-Arts

“It’s great for us as a charity to have relationships with local Businesses like BASF and SE Recycling. With this donation it means we can keep all our activities at a low cost or even free, meaning those people who couldn’t normally afford these activities now can.”

Gemma Rooke, Z-arts Manchester

Achievements

  • Working with BASF funds were raised for Z-arts.

  • A huge amount of ICT was recycled.

  • Staff from BASF had the chance to contribute to the fund raising initiative.

The Project

SE Recycling, in conjunction with North West Business Leaders, is working with BASF to support the Lever Prize winning charity Z-Arts. As such, BASF invited all employees, family and friends to bring their unwanted ICT equipment into the offices for SER to collect

Z-arts works with local families from the Hulme, Trafford and Moss Side areas. They offer creative activities 6 days a week, from ages 0 plus, for young people to participate in, alone, or with their families.  Activities include family choir, breakdancing, paint pot for tots, lego café, theatre in unusual places, film club and many more. As a registered charity (no. 1093556) every gift they receive goes directly to the heart of what they do, and makes a real impact on the lives of the young people of Manchester and beyond.

Process

BASF Staff, their family and friends all rounded up all their old, redundant ICT and dropped it off in electronic waste bins stationed in BASF’s office provided by SER.

Some of the items that were dropped off were as follows:

  • Laptops & Batteries.
  • PC’s, Servers & Network Switches.
  • Modems, Routers & Set Top Boxes.
  • All cables, Including Scart, Power, Data etc.
  • Mobile Phones.
  • Game Consoles, Tablets & All other Electronic Devices.

Results

The equipment was then collected, processed and recycled. The value made from the collection of the IT equipment was then handed back to Z-Arts in the form of a cheque. After the ICT was collected and recycled, SER were able to raise £213.87 for Z-Arts. The equipment was then collected, processed and recycled. The value made from the collection of the IT equipment was then handed back to Z-Arts in the form of a cheque
