SE Recycling and Birmingham City University Raise Over £10,000 for Charity Through Sustainable IT Recycling
SE Recycling and Birmingham City University are proud to share that in the first quarter, two separate funds were raised for donation to Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid, with £1,098.40 raised through their ongoing work together and a further £136.40 donated. This means more than £10,000 has now been raised through sustainable IT recycling.
This achievement reflects how responsible IT lifecycle management can deliver real environmental benefits while also creating meaningful, long-term social impact within the local community.
Supporting Birmingham City University’s IT Lifecycle
Across large educational institutions, IT equipment is regularly refreshed to support teaching, research, and day-to-day operations. Devices used in classrooms, libraries, offices, and specialist learning spaces must be replaced to meet evolving performance, security, and educational requirements.
SE Recycling works closely with Birmingham City University to manage unwanted and end-of-life IT equipment through a secure and fully compliant process. This includes the collection of redundant devices when systems are replaced or upgraded, ensuring equipment is handled responsibly and in line with environmental and data protection regulations. Through this approach, Birmingham City University can modernise its IT infrastructure with confidence while maintaining strong sustainability credentials.
Turning Sustainable Recycling into Community Support
For seven consecutive years, this partnership has gone beyond responsible IT disposal. Equipment collected from Birmingham City University is processed through SE Recycling’s approved recycling channels, allowing recoverable value to be generated from materials that would otherwise be treated as waste.
That value is then donated to Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid, helping to fund essential services that support women, children, and families affected by domestic abuse across the region. Raising over £10,000 through this approach demonstrates how long-term collaboration can translate everyday operational sustainability into tangible community benefit.
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability and Social Responsibility
This collaboration shows how organisations can successfully align environmental responsibility with social purpose. By embedding sustainability into everyday operations, SE Recycling and Birmingham City University are able to reduce environmental impact while also supporting those who need help the most.
