What is IT Asset Management (ITAM)?

IT asset management or ITAM is the efficient maintenance, reporting, upgrading, replacement and disposal of an organisation’s IT Assets.  the aim of IT asset management is to ensure organisations get the maximum amount of value out of their IT equipment from every stage of its life-cycle.

This is great! But what actually is an IT asset? An IT asset consists of all different types of technology including physical hardware, software, computer peripherals, physical and electronic data and much more.

With the ever-changing world of technology, IT assets are becoming obsolete at a much faster rate with the continuous introduction of new tech. This is why it is imperative for organisations to have an ITAM procedure in place to ensure their assets are fully managed from the beginning of their life-cycle to the end.

When IT assets are at the end of their lifecycle it is crucial that they are disposed of safely and securely ensuring any sensitive and data bearing equipment is completely erased or destroyed. With many physical assets that store data, factory resets, deleting of files or removal of components is not enough to remove all sensitive information from devices.

At SE Recycling we help organisations dispose of their IT equipment correctly ensuring all their IT assets are accounted for, securely wiped, where possible refurbished or recycled with the possibility of generating a financial return.
